Crab & Lobster Wedding | Claire & Joe

Crab & Lobster Wedding. Here it is, my final 2017 blog post! And what a way to end!

Claire & Joe were married at The Crab & Lobster near Thirsk and as you may have guessed, it snowed a touch! The wether was dodgy to say the least as I crawled up the A1 but not long after I arrived the snowfall ceased leaving everything covered in a beautiful layer of white!

Lauren Rippin was in charge of Claire’s hair and make up and I was so excited to be working with her again – she’s amazing and such a lovely person. Plus I trust her with my eyebrows so she must be good! 😀

I started off by capturing lots of lovely detail shots of Claire’s beautiful Eliza Jane Howell dress. Ooh and the gorgeous bouquets and the floral crown for Claire and Joe’s adorable flower girl Maisie, all by Pink Ginger Flowers. And then busied myself capturing everything going on in the background.

Joe was getting ready in the cabin next door so I popped by to see the guys apply the finishing touches. I then headed back in time to see Claire having her hair finished and a fab red lip applied (wish I could wear it so well!) before getting dressed. A few photos of Claire and co in the snow and it was time for the ceremony!

In a break from tradition Claire and Joe met up before the ceremony and walked down the aisle together (following their page boy and flower girl, who was so excited she forgot the flower sprinkling part of the role!). I love ceremonies at Crab Manor – so much natural light!

After the ceremony Claire & Joe led their guests through to the lounge for drinks. We (very quickly!) whipped through some chilly family photos and then I wandered down to the restaurant to capture the wedding breakfast set up. If you haven’t been to The Crab & Lobster it’s an amazingly weird place full of the most random collection of fantastic…. STUFF! I don’t really know how else to describe it! My personal favourite is the skeleton suspended from the ceiling; people who know me will not be surprised by that! Claire & joe’s was a lovely intimate wedding so they’d set up the tables in a large square so that everyone could see each other. The tables were decorated with floral garlands by Pink Ginger Flowers, and dotted with miniature Christmas trees.

Then it was couples portrait time! Claire & Joe were happy to trek out in the snow so we spent 15-20 minutes wandering around and capturing some lovely relaxed shots of them in the gardens before heading in to warm up prior to the wedding breakfast.

In another break from tradition there were no speeches, and the toasts were interrupted by a surprise visit from Father Christmas who came to hand out the wedding favours – I don’t think I’ve ever seen more excitement than there was on little Maisie’s face at that moment!

Once Santa was finished he headed back to the North Pole and everyone made their way to the main bar whilst the room was set up for the evening do. Claire & Joe decided against a first dance so the partying got started pretty quickly, and they’d also organised a casino to keep everyone entertained.

Huge thank you Claire & Joe for booking me to photograph your wedding, and for ending my 2017 in style!

I live near Ilkley with my slightly* nutty 9 year old Rose, and I have had the honour of photographing weddings and families for 11 years now. I genuinely cannot believe how lucky I am that I get to call this my job.

*she once told me that traffic lights are the bane of her life, and she went through a phase of naming everything "Cantameen". Send help!

I love photographing people. Whether it's your wedding day, you're expecting or have just had a baby, or you simply want to capture your loved ones the way they are right now, my aim is to document unique moments in time to create a beautiful set of images that you will treasure for many years to come. My style combines photojournalism with beautiful portraits, and my fun and relaxed approach makes you feel comfortable and at ease in front of the camera – I want you to actually enjoy having your photograph taken!

Although I’m based near Ilkley I cover all of Yorkshire and I’m actually happy to travel anywhere for weddings and portrait shoots. So if you have any questions then please get in touch using one of my contact forms. In the meantime, grab a cuppa and browse through my wedding or portrait galleries, or take a look at my most recent work on the blog.

I can't wait to hear from you x
