Halifax Wedding Photographer | Sarah & Paul | Shibden Mill Inn

Halifax Wedding Photographer. Sarah & Paul were married at Calderdale Register Office on a bright and sunny may morning, and then headed to Shibden Mill Inn for their reception. It was a lovely, relaxed, happy day and a joy to share it with them!

I joined Sarah at Shibden Mill a couple of hours before the ceremony where she was getting ready with her mum, sister and adorable little girl Emma. The amazing Lauren Rippin was in charge of hair and make up – I always love working with Lauren and watching her work her magic! I highly recommend her if you’re still looking for a hair and make up artist for your wedding.

As always I focused on the details when I arrived, and then mostly kept to the background capturing everything that was going on without interfering. Emma started to get a little bored after a couple of hours, but it was nothing that Mickey Mouse couldn’t fix (thanks to Lauren!) – what did we do before the internet?! And then it was time to get Sarah into her dress. I stayed to get a few informal family photos before heading down to the registry office.

I was assisted in the moring by the awesome Jamie Sia who captured the guys getting ready at Sarah & Paul’s home in Leeds. We met up at the registry office in time for me to nip in and say hi to Paul whilst Jamie waited outside for Sarah to arrive. After the ceremony Sarah & Paul exited in a flurry of confetti and spent some time chatting to their guests in the spring sunshine before we all headed off to Shibden Inn.

After a quick drink we whizzed through some relaxed family photos and then I kept hold of Sarah & Paul for some portraits in the gardens at Shibden. We eventually managed to coax Emma into a couple of photos with her mummy and daddy (she was way more interested in exploring the place with her friends, and who could blame her really!) and then I headed in to (very politely!) boot everyone out of the bar where the wedding breakfast was set up so I could get some lovely detail shots of the room and flowers.

Once everyone was seated I left them alone to enjoy their food and then popped back in for the speeches. The weather had been glorious with clear blue skies all day long, so once the speeches were finished I gave Sarah & Paul a bit of a break and then took them out for more photos (via the wine cellar. For photos, I didn’t need to get them sloshed first or anything. Not sure why I feel the need to point that out but there you go!). We jumped in my trusty Beetle and drove out to a beautiful cobbled road nearby and spent about 20 minutes chatting and taking photos in the evening sun. My job is ace 😀

Sarah & Paul wanted to keep their wedding super relaxed and informal, so there was no evening reception as such with a first dance and so on, so when we got back to Shibden Mill I stayed to get some photos of the kids enjyping their teat time picnic, and then left everyone to enjoy the rest of the night.

Big thanks to Sarah & Paul for asking me to photograph their wonderful wedding day, and of course to Jamie for his help! Here are a few of the suppliers involved in case you’re still looking for anyone for your big day! x

    Oh, hey!I'm Laura.

    PHOTOGRAPHER.

    STORYTELLER.

    MOTHER.

    FLORAL ADDICT.

I live near Ilkley with my slightly* nutty 4 year old Rose, and I have had the honour of photographing weddings and families for 6 years now. I genuinely cannot believe how lucky I am that I get to call this my job.

*I say slightly, she recently told me that traffic lights are the bane of her life, and she names everything "Cantameen". Send help!

I love photographing people. Whether it's your wedding day, you're expecting or have just had a baby, or you simply want to capture your loved ones the way they are right now, my aim is to document unique moments in time to create a beautiful set of images that you will treasure for many years to come. My style combines photojournalism with beautiful portraits, and my fun and relaxed approach makes you feel comfortable and at ease in front of the camera – I want you to actually enjoy having your photograph taken!

Although I’m based near Ilkley I cover all of Yorkshire and I’m actually happy to travel anywhere for weddings and portrait shoots. So if you have any questions then please get in touch using one of my contact forms. In the meantime, grab a cuppa and browse through my wedding or portrait galleries, or take a look at my most recent work on the blog

I can't wait to hear from you x
