Pavilion Hotel York Wedding | Laura + Tom.
Pavilion Hotel York Wedding. Laura & Tom were married at Heslington Church and then went on to the Pavilion Hotel York for their wedding reception. These guys had booked me in the January of the year before ad I couldn’t quite believe the big day had arrived so quickly!
Side note – any sentence with “Laura and Tom were married” is an unpleasant one for me to write because Tom is my brother’s name, but I’l try and keep my lunch down and forge on! 😀
I joined Laura and her bridesmaids and mum at Laura & Tom’s home in York to capture them all getting ready. It was a gloriously hot (some might say too hot!) morning and they were all getting ready in the kitchen – go to go for the best light! I always like it when the girls all get ready together; the room is always full of noise and laughter and makes for great candid photos!
Laura’s make up was just starting when I arrived so I busied myself with her dress and other little details until she was in the final stages when I squeezed myself between the MUA’s light and the cooker to get some shots of her blusher and lipstick going on! The next hour or so zipped past in a haze of hair and candid photos whilst the girls finished getting ready, and soon it was time for Laura to get dressed. Her sister Steph helped her to get ready and then we brought her downstairs where the rest of the gang were waiting to see her. Safe to say they approved! Her dad arrived as well and was equally impressed (though he held it together better haha!) and we managed a few group photos before I headed off to the church to see Tom and the guys.
I beat them there so got some detail shots of the church and chatted with the wonderful vicar who basically said “stand wherever you want to and feel free to move about” which always makes me happy! (OK, so reading back that sentence I realise it sounds a bit dodgy but it made me laugh so I’m leaving it in). Anyhoo, when Tom and co arrived I grabbed them for a few group photos and then stuck to the background capturing guests arriving. Once everyone was in Laura and the girls arrived and it was show time! The ceremony went off with only one small hitch – the song didn’t last long enough for 5 bridesmaids and Laura to get down the aisle, so the organist had to play it twice. But that broke the tension nicely as Laura & Tom were both super nervous!
After the service Laura and Tom walked back up the aisle as husband and wife (and I think breathe a sigh of relief that that part was over!) and waited outside to greet everyone. Tom’s family had arranged a mobile Prosecco bar out of the back of a Land Rover at the end of the church path so everyone grabbed some confetti and a drink and bombed Laura & Tom as they walked down. With confetti, not booze! We got on with the group photos at the church whilst everyone enjoyed their drinks, hampered by a shower only briefly. Then it was on to The Pavilion Hotel. I made it there ahead of Laura and Tom and managed to capture a few details of the wedding breakfast set up before waiting for them to arrive at the front of the hotel.
We had a little time before the speeches so Laura, Tom and I headed to the courtyard at the back of the hotel for a few photos of the two of them (with no audience!). Laura and Tom were keen to get a shot of all of their guests so the lovely staff at The Pavilion helped me to round everyone up and on to the patio and lawn so that I could fir them all into a pic from one of the bedrooms.
Then it was time to head inside for the speeches. I don’t think anyone was thrilled with the idea of public speaking but a supportive crowd can make all the difference and these guys definitely had that! I left them all to their meal then, and re-joined them for the cake cutting and (brief!) first dance. I was happy to see the dance floor crowded straight after and got some shots of everyone partying before heading home!
Thank you, Laura and Tom, for trusting me to capture your wedding! And if you’re planning your wedding at The Pavilion Hotel and looking for a photographer then please do get in touch! x
