Red Lion Burnsall Wedding Photography | Imogen & John

Red Lion Burnsall Wedding Photography. Burnsall is a beautiful village in the Yorkshire Dales, and even more so on a gloriously sunny day like this was! Summer 2018 was very kind to us. Though not to the grass which was scorched to brown pretty much everywhere by this point.

Imogen & her mum and bridesmaids were getting ready in one of the cottages at The Red Lion and I spent a lovely couple of hours with them all capturing them getting ready as well as all the little details. Meanwhile my fab second shooter for the day, Jamie, met up with the guys at the church for a few shots of them before the guests started to arrive by vintage bus from the pub.

Once Imogen was ready we brought the bridesmaids back in, followed by her dad, so that I could capture their reactions to seeing Imogen in her dress for the first time. LOVE this part! I’m pretty sure they approved 😀 A quick couple of photos and it was time for me to head to the church. I took my place at the front of the church whilst Jamie waited outside for Imogen & the girls to arrive. Which took a little longer than expected as it turned out that the bus had forgotten to pick up the bridal party so they’d had to hop on the local service to Grassington 😀

After a funny and very emotional service Imogen and John walked back up the aisle as husband and wife, and made their way back out into the sunshine to greet their guests as they exited the church. Everyone waited at the top of the path to blast the newlyweds with confetti and then we all made our way back down into the village for the reception at The Red Lion. It was a lovely long drinks reception so we let Imogen & John have a drink and a chat with their friends and family before I took them out to the river for a few group photos.

These guys were keen to get some shots by the water, and I knew of a great place further up the river, so after a few photos under the bridge we grabbed armfuls of Imogen’s dress and trekked down the tow path into the countryside. Imogen was an absolute star walking all that way in her heels, but then she is a dancer so I guess she’s had plenty of practice! 😀

We wandered until the path widened and we could get down to the water’s edge. Or, in Jamie’s case, right into the water – still not certain if he had the shot in mind already or was just desperate to cool off 😀 When we eventually made it back to the hotel the guests were well into the drinks and food (and football; apparently there was an England match on or something?!). Jamie and I busied ourselves with more informal shots of everyone catching up, and some detail shots of the wedding breakfast set up, before the guests were called in for dinner.

Speeches were after the food, and as you’ll probably see from the photos they were hilarious! The sun was starting to set at this point so it was back outside for more shots of Imogen & John on that amazing bridge and then it was party time. Since Imogen is a dancer it was only natural that she had choreographed a routine for their first dance. Which was responsible for a lot of John’s nerves on the day but needn’t have been because he absolutely nailed it, even the lift! The real party started at this point and after some shots of the dance floor action it was my time to go.

Huge thank you to Imogen & John for trusting me to capture their wedding, and to Jamie for being a superb second shooter as always!
