Utopia Wedding Photographer | Kate & Guy.

Utopia Wedding Photographer. It seems like no time at all since I first met Kate & Guy back in January 2018! It was a chilly overcast morning when I arrived at Eden to capture Kate & her bridesmaids getting ready. The setting was perfect though – new lambs frolicking about the fields and the gardens full of daffodils (narcissi?!). The suite at Eden is a favourite spot of mine for photos of the bridal preparations; it’s so light and airy and there’s loads of space!

Kate was having her hair done by Kymberley Holmes when I got there so I said some hellos’s and set about photographing the details of the dress, flowers and so on until she was a bit more photo-ready! Kate’s family and friends from overseas were all staying in Eden as well so the room was soon full of noise and nervous energy! Everyone was so happy though and I spent a lovely couple of hours bobbing around in the background as hair and make up were finished and they all got ready.

Once Kate was dressed I stayed to get a quick shot of her in one of the fab windows at Eden and to capture the reactions of her family when they got their first glimpse of her all ready to go. I set off to the church and arrived in time to get some photos of it all set up for the ceremony – it looked amazing full of daffodils that Kate, Guy and their friends had gathered from various supermarkets the week before! Soon the guests arrived by coach and then Kate and the girls appeared, chauffeured by Kate’s dad.

Whilst I always place myself at the front for a civil ceremony I’m not always able to in church, depending on the vicar and the building. I was able to capture Kate walking down the aisle and then I snuck to the back for the actual ceremony. It was a beautiful service and they had some lovely readings (Winnie The Pooh being my favourite!). Their fab vicar also made sure that I captured Kate and Guy signing the register instead of staging it afterwards, which I much preferred! Very rare that I’m allowed to do that, let alone a encourage to!

The sun had started shining just before Kate’s arrival at the church and happily it stayed out all afternoon. After the ceremony Kate and Guy walked back up the aisle and waited outside greet everyone as they grabbed a confetti cone and lined up on the church path. They were bombed with mountains of confetti (there’s no such thing as too much confetti I always say!) and the three of us jumped into my car whilst everyone else headed down to Utopia for the reception.

Kate, Guy and I drove around to one of the rental cottages on the estate for lots of lovely shots of the two of them with the Yorkshire Dales sprawling across in the distance. We drove down to Eden for a shot amongst the daffodils and then joined the guests at Utopia. I think that was the first time I was genuinely happy to have my new car – not sure my Beetle would have survived those roads!

When we arrived at Utopia everyone was outside enjoying drinks and canapés in the sunshine so I let Kate and Guy have a bit of a break whilst I got some shots of the wedding breakfast set up. Then it was time for the group photos which we rattled off in no time and even managed a shot of everyone on the steps outside Utopia! I spent the rest of the drinks reception sneaking around to capture informal shots of everyone before it was time to head in for the hog roast.

Speeches were after the meal, and were wonderful despite the many MANY nerves all around! A bit of a break later and it was time for the first dance and the PARTY!

Thank you to Kate & Guy for trusting met capture their wedding, and to Lizzie & Tim whose wedding I shot in 2017 and who recommended me! x

I live near Ilkley with my slightly* nutty 9 year old Rose, and I have had the honour of photographing weddings and families for 11 years now. I genuinely cannot believe how lucky I am that I get to call this my job.

*she once told me that traffic lights are the bane of her life, and she went through a phase of naming everything "Cantameen". Send help!

I love photographing people. Whether it's your wedding day, you're expecting or have just had a baby, or you simply want to capture your loved ones the way they are right now, my aim is to document unique moments in time to create a beautiful set of images that you will treasure for many years to come. My style combines photojournalism with beautiful portraits, and my fun and relaxed approach makes you feel comfortable and at ease in front of the camera – I want you to actually enjoy having your photograph taken!

Although I’m based near Ilkley I cover all of Yorkshire and I’m actually happy to travel anywhere for weddings and portrait shoots. So if you have any questions then please get in touch using one of my contact forms. In the meantime, grab a cuppa and browse through my wedding or portrait galleries, or take a look at my most recent work on the blog.

I can't wait to hear from you x
