What to expect from your wedding photography.

On The Day.

Leeds wedding photography. For me wedding photography is all about the story, and every story is unique. Most of my wedding photos are natural and unposed, I’m simply there to document your wedding day as it happens. Your family photos will need a little more input from me, but I try to keep these to a minimum whilst making sure we cover the important people. I’ll also take the two off you off for a little while to create some beautiful shots of the two of you together. Don’t worry, this is totally relaxed! We’ll just go for a wander, stopping here and there for some photographs. I’ll give you some guidance on where and how to stand, but I mostly want to capture you interacting together. And of course I love the details – flowers (ALWAYS flowers!), dress, shoes, cake – all the personal little touches that you’ve spent months organising! You can find loads of examples from my recent weddings over on my blog.

After The Wedding.

After your wedding I’ll edit your images in my signature style, and you’ll receive your final set of photographs (at least 400) in both colour and black + white, on a beautifully presented USB which I will post to you. This will come with personal printing rights so you can share and print as much as you like. You’ll also have an online gallery that you can share with friends and family.

If you decided ordered an album as well then you will choose the 100 images that you want to include from your online gallery, and I’ll design the proofs for you to check before printing. Scroll to the bottom of this page see a few images of my sample albums which will give you an idea of what they look like!

FAQs.

I’ve spoken to hundreds of brides and grooms about their wedding photography now, in Leeds, York, Harrogate, Ilkley, and all over really! Although every wedding is different there are a few questions that come up quite a lot! So I’ve put together a list of things that people almost always ask me, feel free to have a scroll though and if there’s anything I’ve missed then just ask using my contact form.

WHAT IS AN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT?

An engagement shoot is a chance for the two of you to get to know me better, and more importantly for you to get used to having your picture taken and to feel comfortable in front of the camera. Plus you’ll get to see how great you look in photographs, giving you one less thing to worry about on your wedding day! The shoot can take place wherever you like. This might be out in the countryside, at a local park or area of woodland, a city centre, or even your chosen wedding venue. I’ll also provide you with digital copies of the images from your engagement shoot which you can put on your wall or use for invitations and guest books. You can find out more and see lots of lovely engagement shoot photos in my engagement photography gallery.

HOW MANY PHOTOS WILL WE GET?

I don’t put a limit on the number of photos I provide, however you should typically expect at least 40 images from your engagement shoot if you have one, and at least 400 wedding photographs.

WILL YOU TRAVEL FOR A WEDDING?

Absolutely! Although I’m based outside of Leeds in West Yorkshire I am happy to travel all over the UK for wedding photography. For weddings beyond Yorkshire there is an additional travel cost of 0.45p per mile. If your wedding takes place far enough away from Ilkley to require an overnight stay then accommodation will also be charged for at cost in addition to my usual fee. For overseas weddings I charge my usual fee plus flights, meals and accommodation for 2 or 3 nights. I’m happy to discuss these requirements.

DO YOU DO GROUP SHOTS?

Yes indeed. Group photos are important to family members, and I’m more than happy to include a number of these on the day. My style is very relaxed and informal, so I prefer to keep to a maximum of around 8 of these more formal group photos. You can expect this to take around 20-30 minutes, giving you plenty of time to get back to your guests. And your drink!

WHEN CAN WE SEE OUR IMAGES?

The editing of your images after the wedding is as important to me as taking the photos on the big day, and I put a great deal of care and effort into making sure that your photographs are perfect before you view them. Your images will be available online in a password protected gallery within 6 weeks after your wedding, and I’ll then post out your USB.

SHOULD WE HAVE A SECOND PHOTOGRAPHER?

Having a second photographer along means that the groom’s preparations before the ceremony can be captured as well as the bride’s. You’ll also get two different angles during the wedding ceremony, and more candid shots of your guests throughout the day but particularly during the drinks reception.

So it is a nice thing to have if your budget allows and you’re wanting that extra coverage, however I confidently photograph weddings solo as well. If you take a look at my Featured Weddings section you can see examples of weddings that I have shot by myself, and ones where a second photographer joined us for the day.

DO YOU HAVE BACK-UP EQUIPMENT?

Absolutely. I shoot with two Canon 5D Mark III’s throughout the day, and use a variety of lenses. I primarily use natural light but I also have a few flashes which I sometimes use for the speeches, and then always for the party! I also sometimes use flash for some creative portraits in the evening.

DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE?

Ohhhhh yes. Public liability and Professional Indemnity. My equipment is also insured.

HOW LONG DO YOU STAY FOR ON THE DAY?

My full-day package includes coverage from the bridal preparations until the dancing in the evening. This is typically 10-12 hours depending on the schedule of your day.

DO YOU DO ALBUMS?

Absolutely! I use a company called QT Albums which create beautiful fine art books in a variety of covers. Keep scrolling for more info!

CAN WE MAKE OUR OWN PRINTS FROM THE PHOTOS?

Of course! You can make as many prints/canvases/mugs as you like from your digital files. Anything as long as it’s for personal use, you can’t submit them to magazines or for use in advertising.

Also if any of your other wedding suppliers approach you for photographs I ask that you pass them my details. I’m always happy to share images with other suppliers, I just want to make sure they use the right resolution and I’ll usually give watermarked copies for social media use!

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?

Rain on your wedding day is always a possibility, no matter the time of year. My advice is to plan for it, but don’t worry about it! Bring some wellies and a white umbrella on the day as a back up – it’s always better to have them and not need them than to be stuck with no options!

HOW DO WE BOOK YOU?

If you’re interested in booking me for your wedding photography then we can arrange a meeting in your home or at a local cafe (there are so many ideally placed in and around Leeds, Harrogate and York that I can always fine a good halfway spot!) to chat about your wedding and for you to find out a bit more about me. Once you decide that you would like to book, a £300 booking fee secures your wedding date along with a signed contract. The remaining balance is then due one month before your wedding.
