A House of Savin gown for a bright Spring wedding at Thirsk Lodge Barns.
Thirsk Lodge Barns Wedding Photographer. It was a beautifully warm spring day for Annabelle and Alex’s wedding at Thirsk Lodge Barns – one of my favourite wedding venues. There’s so much outdoor space to explore for photos, but also the inside is beautiful as well with plenty of natural light and of different spaces to use if the weather is against you. Luckily this was not the case for Annabelle and Alex’s wedding day!
Getting ready.
I joined Annabelle and the girls at the farmhouse at Thirsk Lodge Barns, where they were all getting ready. Annabelle’s makeup by La Belle Vous was flawless! And I loved her botanical detailed gown by House Of Savin.
I spent a lovely couple of hours with Annabelle and the girls, getting to know them all a bit better and capturing all their hair and makeup being finished. It was a lovely moment when Annabelle’s mum came down all ready to go – I think it made things feel quite real for everyone!
With everything being in one place I could nip over to the barn and see it ready for the ceremony and get some detail shots of the flowers before guests arrived. I also managed to get some photos of Alex and the guys putting on button holes, and few relaxed group shots of them before heading back to the farmhouse to see Annabelle get dressed. Once Annabelle was in her gown we brought everyone in to see her – it’s safe to say they were very impressed with what they saw! She looked bloomin’ gorgeous! It was back to the barn then for me to take my place for the ceremony to start. Eeek!
Ceremony.
Annabelle’s granddad walked down the aisle which was lovely to see, and he was obviously very honoured. Emotions were running high and I managed to get plenty of shots of Annabelle and Alex’s friends and family watching them say their vows. There was lots of laughter and lots of tears too. Once rings and vows were exchanged, Annabelle and Alex signed the register and had their first kiss as husband and wife. Then it was back up the aisle and outside into the spring sunshine for the drinks reception.
Reception.
We kicked things off with a confetti lineup. Annabelle and Alex had supplied plenty of colourful paper confetti, and were finding it for days afterwards I’m sure! I let them grab a drink then and relax for a bit, saying hello to the friends and family and getting lots of hugs and congratulations (which is a great time for candid photos of everyone as well). Then we wandered out to the field for some group photos with their close family and wedding party.
When everyone else went back to the drinks reception I kept Annabelle and Alex for some portraits in the long grass outside the barn. we hadn’t done an engagement shoot but it turned out that wasn’t needed because these guys were naturals in front of the camera! Perfectly happy to have a chat and laugh with each other and pretty much ignore me, which is just what I’m looking for! We decided to save more photos for after dinner because we knew it was going to be a lovely evening. so Annabelle and Alex rejoined their guests whilst I got some shots of the barn set up for the wedding breakfast. I spent the rest of the drinks reception capturing candid shots of everyone enjoying spending time together in the courtyard, and soon it was time to take seats for food speeches.
Speeches.
Once Annabelle and Alex were announced to huge cheers, the speeches started. There was a very sweet one from Annabelle’s granddad, a very funny one from Alex’s best man, and I was pleased to see Annabelle say a few words as well – I always love it whenever a bride does a speech, and Annabelle was awesome! I left them alone to eat, and waited for the evening reception to start.
Party.
I spotted some beautiful golden light not long before the first dance, so I took the newlyweds back out to the gardens behind the farmhouse, and then to the field further down the drive, to get some shots of them in the evening sun. Afterwards we went back in for the cake cutting and the first dance. After which the dance floor was absolutely packed with people throwing shapes; especially Alex’s sister who is a professional dancer! It didn’t take long for me to get loads of amazing dance floor photos and then I left them all to boogie.
