Family Photographer in Leeds | Best of 2017
That’s me; a family photographer in Leeds. Or near Leeds, if we’re being specific. And maternity photographer for that matter. And newborn photographer. And family photographer. And photographer of munchkins of all ages, shapes and sizes!
Here it is as promised – a selection of my favourite maternity, newborn, baby and family photographs from 2017. I met so many lovely families last year, and I got to catch up with some old favourites! I revisited some of my favourite photo locations, found some new ones, and took over a few family homes on more inclement days!
I made a big change to the way I photograph newborn babies in 2017. Instead of the studio-style newborn shoots with lots of cute photos of tiny naked babies curled up in baskets and things, I moved towards a more natural “lifestyle” approach. So lots more relaxed photos of newborns having cuddles at home with mum and dad, and less bobble hats and miniature suitcases! :-D. I still love to capture tiny babies on their own – if they will agree to being put down – but one of the bonuses of this kind of shoot is that little ones don’t necessarily have to be naked or even asleep for the photos, which I find they much prefer (though it’s fine to request both of those things!). It was a tough decision for me to make in some ways, because I do still love a curled-up-newborn shot (and a good prop hunt!), but I’ve found this kind of shoot to be so much easier on baby, and on mum and dad! And actually when I look at the photos I have of my own little girl in those early weeks it’s not the ones of her asleep in a basket that mean the most to me. It’s the ones where she zonked out on my tummy, or has a milky face, or is squeezing my finger.
So, on with the photos! As always my style is pretty relaxed and informal – no elaborate posing, just families together being themselves, having a great time, with me there to capture it. My obsession with tiny toes continues into another year, and is joined by a new one actually – baby yawns!
