Best Barn Wedding Venues in Yorkshire

When it comes to barn wedding venues in Yorkshire then we are so spoilt. Barn weddings have increased in popularity hugely over the last few years, with new venues seeming to pop up every year! Some stick to their roots, with original beams and brickwork for a rustic feel. Others have gone all out with modern details – think floor-to-ceiling windows and statement chandeliers. Whatever look you’re going for you’re sure to find a barn wedding venue somewhere in Yorkshire to suit your style and budget. Keep scrolling to read about 14 of my favourites, and that’s not even all of them! For each venue you’ll find a brief description barn (or barns!) and lots of lovely images from weddings I’ve shot there. Enjoy!

14 of the Best Barn Wedding Venues in Yorkshire

1. The Tithe Barn Bolton Abbey.

tithe barn wedding bolton abbey. best barn wedding venues in yorkshire

When it comes to barn wedding venues in Yorkshire then I have to say this is my absolute favourite! The Tithe Barn is a 16th century barn wedding venue set in the Bolton Abbey Estate. It’s a Grade II listed building and overlooks Bolton Abbey itself from the rear gardens. Internally the space is SO beautiful with ancient beams, flagstone floors, fairy lights galore and amazing medi chandeliers. And it’s huge! You can have up to 200 guests during the day and an extra 100 in the evening. Having said that I have also seen much smaller weddings here, and it’s perfect for a more cosy and intimate wedding day too.

It’s licensed for civil ceremonies or you can have a church service first; either down at the abbey or further afield. I’ve also seen a few celebrant-led ceremonies here too. The staff are incredible; Sharon and her team run things like a dream. They are always on hand to help bring your ideas to life and to take care of the finer details too. The food is delicious as well! And in terms of photographs the building and the field outside make a perfect backdrop, as well as the view to the abbey at the back. You can also choose to have photos taken down at the ruins, though the Abbey Estate charge for this if you don’t have your ceremony at The Priory Church, so bare that in mind!

The Tithe Barn is the venue I’ve been to most often – I’ve been lucky enough to see 30 couples hold their weddings here. You can see some examples of weddings I’ve photographed here.

2. Thirsk Lodge Barns.

thirsk lodge barns. Best barn wedding venues in Yorkshire

Thirsk Lodge Barns one of the newer Yorkshire barn wedding venues set in the North Yorkshire Countryside just outside (unsurprisingly!) Thirsk. It has quickly become one of my favourites for a few reasons! Firstly the barns themselves are gorgeous. The Main Barn where you can hold your ceremony is so light which is great for photos. The beams and fairy light wall give it such a cosy feel and there’s a great mezzanine where your singers or musicians can play from. It’s transformed to the party room later in the day too which is so handy as you don’t have to wait for the wedding breakfast set up to be changed around as that takes place in another space – The Dining Room. Again there’s lots of natural light in here which is great for photos during your speeches! There’s also The Courtyard for your drinks reception and those all-important confetti photos! But if the weather isn’t on your side then The Bar is really spacious and has amazing floor-to-ceiling windows.

They also have accommodation on-site – The Farm House and The Laundry Cottage. These have also been beautifully renovated and are great for getting ready in with your bridal party on the wedding morning.

There are limitless spots for photos at Thirsk Lodge Barns – the barns themselves make a great backdrop and have loads of cool spaces. There’s also the surrounding fields which look different throughout the year and are perfect if you want to get a bit of peace and have some photos taken without an audience!

My blog needs an update so examples of wedding I’ve photographed at Thirsk Lodge Barns are COMING SOON!

3. Yorkshire Wedding Barn | Modern Barn Wedding Venues in Yorkshire.

Barn Wedding Venues Yorkshire | yorkshire wedding barn

I cannot say enough good things about this gorgeous barn wedding venue! Set among the Yorkshire Dales, The Yorkshire Wedding Barn actually comprises two beautiful converted barns. They’re both light and airy inside thanks to the fab bifold doors, and the whole place has a modern but timeless feel. Plus the views are just incredible. Ceremonies can be held in The Lake Barn or outdoors, with the drinks reception and wedding breakfast taking place in The Wedding Barn (or hopefully outside on the terrace in the warmer months!). Then it’s party time back in the Lake Barn in the evening.

There’s loads of great accommodation on-site for your close family and friends, and the bridal room above the Lake Barn is the perfect place to get ready with your bridesmaids.

For photography The Yorkshire Wedding Barn is an absolute dream too. There are absolutely endless spots for amazing photos, with views across the dales on all sides. And an awesome cornfield at the back of the venue! There are also lots of great spots you can use on a rainy day as well. See a couple of examples of weddings I’ve shot at The Yorkshire Wedding Barn here.

4. East Riddlesden Hall | Historic Barn Wedding Venue in Yorkshire.

Barn Wedding Venues Yorkshire | east riddlesden hall

The Airedale Barn at East Riddlesden is such a romantic space for a wedding. The beamed ceiling is festooned in fairy lights and the barn manages to keep a cosy, intimate feel whilst being able to seat up to 160 guests! Ceremonies take place at the left section of the barn as you walk in the main entrance. The aisle can run from right to left, with the bride and groom either standing on the stage on the far left in front of the fairy light wall, or from back to front so that you’re standing in front of the big glass doors. The second option is my preference, for the good light!

Your drinks reception can take place outside the barn by the lake, or in the gardens at the back on of the hall itself. Then it’s back into the barn for your wedding breakfast, this time to the right hand side! Meanwhile the ceremony space has been emptied to make way for the party later in the evening. Everything is run so seamlessly here!

In terms of photos you’re spoilt for choice at East Riddlesden Hall! If your drinks reception is by the lake it can be nice to stay here for most of your photos in the afternoon, and then to head around to the gardens in the evening. Click here for some weddings I’ve shot at East Riddlesden in the last few years.

5. The Normans, York | Unique Yorkshire Barn Wedding Venues

Barn Wedding Venues Yorkshire | the normans york

The Normans is such a unique barn venue. It’s set in a beautiful 18th Century working Farm and is made up of several different areas. Ceremonies take place in the Ceremony Barn; a converted threshing barn featuring exposed brick walls, a gorgeous high ceiling with wooden trusses, and a floor-to-ceiling fairy light curtain!

Afterwards you can head outside to the Courtyard for your drinks reception, or in the case if cold/wet weather to the Cow Stalls and Tack Room (I also love to use the Cow Stalls for some quick photographs of the bride and groom when everyone else is being seated for dinner!).

The Grain Shed is where your wedding breakfast will take place, as well as the evening do as it’s equipped with an illuminated dance floor! In here the walls are whitewashed and the ceiling features billowing layers of fabric and fairy lights for that cosy feel.

The staff here are incredible and the owners Ollie & Laura are so helpful throughout the planning process as well as on the day. They had their own wedding here so they really know what they’re talking about!

They also have a cottage onsite where you can enjoy a glass of fizz and get ready in the morning!

Farms always make great places for photographs as there are so many different backgrounds you can use. Obviously there’s the barns themselves which are gorgeous at all times of year but also so handy for wet weather! But also just over the road there are some more cool farm buildings, and it’s surrounded by open fields which look different throughout the year. Perfect! Here are some recent weddings I’ve photographed at The Normans.

6. Chilli Barn | Intimate Barn Wedding Venues in Yorkshire.

Barn Wedding Venues Yorkshire | the chilli barn otley

I love this intimate Yorkshire barn wedding venue in Otley. And not just because it’s 10 minutes from my house!

The Chilli Barn is a bright and airy space set over two floors and is perfect for a rustic country wedding. From April to October they can cater for up to 60 guests in the daytime and 90 in the evening. Then from November to March it’s 36 day guests and still 90 in the evening. So it’s perfect for more intimate weddings.

Ceremonies can take place indoors or outside, and you can add extra space for the wedding breakfast with a marquee, yurt or teepee.

The building itself is beautiful and is surrounded by gorgeous flowers during the Summer months. Outside the ceremony room is the lawn and the whole place is surrounded by fields, all of which make for great photos! You also have the Chevin Forest Park on the opposite side of the road which I usually take couples into for some quick shots of just the two of them. Or you can drive a couple of minutes down the road to the Surprise View Car Park which (shockingly!) leads on to the top of the Chevin for some great views!

And of course there’s the food which is so delicious! It’s all vegetarian/vegan which makes me happy as I’m a vegan myself. Let me tell you, when the vegan dessert is good then it’s all going to be good!

7. Lodge Farm Weddings.

Barn Wedding Venues Yorkshire | lodge farm weddings

Lodge Farm is another relatively new venue which opened in 2021 and seems to have been booked solid since then! It’s set in a working farm and consists of two 200 year old barns. The Brick Barn is licensed for civil ceremonies and seats up to 130 guests. It’s lovely and light thanks to the distinctive exposed brickwork windows, and has huge vaulted ceilings with oak beams.

Alternatively there’s a lovely little church just a couple of minutes walk through the woods if you’re keen on a religious ceremony. After you’ve said your “I Do’s” it’s outside to the gorgeous Courtyard (weather dependent!) for confetti, drinks and canapes. It’s such a sun trap in the afternoon and is lit by festoon lighting in the evening.

The Grain Shed is where your wedding breakfast will take place. This is another beautiful space with big windows! It features exposed brickwork from the adjoining barns, as well as timber clad walls and a gorgeous fairy light installation. Party time will happen in here too when some of the tables are moved to make way for the dance floor!

Finally there’s also accommodation in the farmhouse onsite for you and your bridal party which is so handy for getting ready on the morning of the wedding.

Owners Jen & Rob held their own wedding here a few years ago and have done such an amazing job of the restoration. They also run wedding days like an absolute dream!

The woodland and surrounding fields at Lodge Farm are great places for photographs if you want to spend a few minutes together away from the crowds! And of course there’s the the Courtyard and the barns themselves. Here are some more photos from Kate & Josh’s gorgeous Lodge Farm wedding.

8. Woolas Barn.

wedding at woolas barn

Woolas Barn sits on a family-run farm in the lovely little village of Appleton Roebuck outside York. It consists of two buildings originally built in 1863 and 1920, and then renovated in 2018. Modern details are combined with the buildings’ original rustic character to create four areas for you to use on your wedding day. Ceremonies take place in The Stables which features exposed brickwork and timber. Your guests will be seated on rows of wooden benches which fit blend perfectly with the original woodwork. This leads back through to The Granary which is the oldest part of Woolas Barn and is where the bar is so it’s a busy space on a wedding day! You can have drinks in here if it’s cold or wet outside, or alternatively in warmer weather you can head out to The Courtyard at the front of the building. This is a great spot for confetti too, and has fire pits for the evening where you can toast marshmallows when the sun goes down.

The Lambing Shed has been transformed for your wedding breakfast and can seat 130 people. I love this room, with its vaulted ceiling and big glass doors. Again it features exposed brickwork and timber to blend with the other areas of the venue. Then it’s just party time which happens back in The Granary which is perfect as it has the bar, dance floor space, and access to a second level for people who want a cosy atmosphere and a chat!

For photos you can’t go wrong at Woolas Barn. There’s a lovely little garden that I often take brides and grooms to for some photographs without an audience! There’s also an orchard which is gorgeous in springtime when the blossom is out. If you’re happy to wander for a minute or two then the lane that leads to the barn is a another quiet spot, and you can get into the fields which might be full of oats or other crops in the summer! Click here to see more from Jen & Edden’s beautiful Spring wedding at Woolas Barn.

9. Wharfedale Grange | Ultimate in Glam Barn Wedding Venues Yorkshire.

Barn Wedding Venues Yorkshire | wharfedale grange

If you’re looking for a glamorous and luxurious barn wedding venue then this is the place for you! Wharfedale Grange is another family-run barn venue and Claire and co have done the most amazing job of restoring this gem.

There are two main barns here. The North Barn is where indoor ceremonies are held and is a super romantic space with a huge wall of fairy lights at the top of the aisle. You can also get married outside under their oak framed arbour.

The South Barn is for your wedding breakfast and evening party, and is guaranteed to take your breath away! This space is double height with a mezzanine level for extra space (and a great view of the dancefloor later on!), and the ceiling is absolutely filled with chandeliers. Oh, plus the biggest mirror ball I’ve ever seen!

Wharfedale Grange also has the most gorgeous bar area which is perfect for wet weather drinks receptions, and a room upstairs which you can use to get ready in on the morning of your wedding. And if that wasn’t enough they have recently renovated the farmhouse and turned it into luxury accommodation for you and your close friends and family.

For your photographs you have so many options at WG. Inside you can use the barns and the upstairs levels, and they allow confetti inside which I love! Then outside you can use the buildings themselves as a backdrop, as well as the farmhouse gardens and in Summer the wildflower meadow. Here are loads more photos from Amy & Kris’s Summer wedding at Wharfedale Grange.

10. Oakwood at Ryther | Statement Barn Wedding Venues in Yorkshire

Barn Wedding Venues Yorkshire | oakwood at ryther york

Another new barn wedding venue which I love love love! The Oakwood at Ryther sits surrounded by beautiful countryside outside York, and consists of two barns, manicured gardens, and luxury accommodation – what more could you want!

The Ceremony Hall is gorgeous! It has lovely high ceilings with oak whalebone arches, a traditional York stone floor, and some stunning light features. You can get up to 160 of your friends and family in here and also has a champagne bar which is great for drinks receptions on inclement days! If the weather is on your side you can spill out into the Courtyard and gardens for drinks and canapés in the fresh air.

The Old Grain Store has been converted for your wedding breakfast and evening reception. It features original exposed brickwork and wooden beams, and the ceilings are draped in soft, billowing fabric with statement chandeliers which add a bit of modern elegance. There’s a central staircase where you can make your entrance to great applause! And this also allows access to the second floor where there’s comfy seating and a quitter space for those guests who don’t want to spend all night on the dance floor!

The barns and Courtyard make such great photo backdrops, as well as the gardens which lead to a small field that grows wild in the Summertime. Dreamy!

More from Cat & Stuart’s sweltering wedding at The Oakwood at Ryther COMING SOON!

11. Hornington Manor.

wedding breakfast at hornington manor

Hornington Manor sits within the grounds of a working farm, surrounded by the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside.

The Manor House offers gorgeous accommodation for you and your wedding party and is perfect for getting ready together on the wedding morning.

You can choose to have your ceremony outdoors either at the Lych Gate between the barns, or on the lawn outside the Manor House overlooking lush green fields. Or you might prefer an indoor ceremony in which case the Russet Barn is the perfect place for you, with a vaulted ceiling, whalebone oak arches, and statement lighting! This barn holds up to 130 guests so it’s a nice big space!

The Dining Barn is where your wedding breakfast will take place, and combines original details like exposed brickwork with timber clad walls and fabric-draped ceilings. It’s a great blank canvas for any theme or colour scheme. It also features lovely big glass doors along one side for that all important natural light! The bar sits at one end of the space and the other end is where your dance floor will sit for you to dance the night away against a wall of fairy lights.

The Courtyard is a perfect place for your photographs as there’s lots of space and loads of interesting features. It’s also usually quiet as you can leave your guests enjoying drinks on the lawn at the back of the Manor House! The lawn too is beautiful for photos, and leads onto open fields which look amazing in the evening once the sun starts to set.

COMNG SOON – loads more shots of weddings I’ve photographed at Hornington Manor!

12. Sandburn Hall.

wedding at sandburn hall york

Sandburn Hall sits within a golf course and is surrounded by lush green countryside as far as the eye can see. It’s a peaceful rural setting but only a short distance to York City Centre. There’s also a hotel onsite now where your guests can stay and not have to worry about the traffic on the way to the wedding!

The Grand Hall is an amazing oak framed room with floor to ceiling windows at one end for perfect lighting! It also has insane views across the golf course, and lakes, and a balcony which is lovely for enjoying evening drinks and cooling down off the dance floor! The ceremony, wedding breakfast, and evening party are all held in here and it holds up to 160 guests. Alternatively, you can opt to get married outside in the White Rose Garden. After the ceremony you can enjoy drinks and canapes outside on the terrace, or inside in the bar in case of rain. They also have a couple of extra rooms you can hire – The Sanderson Room if you need some extra indoor space, and even a Bridal Prep Room where you and your bridal party can get ready on the day!

The White Rose Garden is a great location for photos of the two of you as well as it’s hidden away from the rest of your guests giving you a chance to get a few minutes peace together! Once the golfers have gone home you can head out on to the course as well for more great shots with the venue, lakes and green as a backdrop. Follow this link to see more images from some of the gorgeous weddings I’ve shot at Sandburn in recent years.

13. Barmbyfield Barns.

ceremony at Barmbyfield Barns York

The lovely Barmbyfield Barns is a collection of rustic barns in the North Yorkshire countryside, near York. The owners and staff are so lovely and incredibly helpful both on the day and in the planning stages.

The Ceremony Barn seats up to 120 guests had features exposed brickwork and garland-draped beams. There’s also large fairy light backdrop at the top of the aisle.

After the ceremony you can all enjoy drinks and canapes outside in the courtyard and on the lawn. They also have a sheltered Outside Barn for windy and wet days!

Then it’s back inside for the wedding breakfast and evening reception in the Main Barn which is a huge space that can hold a whopping 220 people. It has lovely high ceilings, and the beams are covered in fairy lights with statement lighting features dotted around for that wow factor.

The surrounding farmland makes the perfect backdrop for your wedding photos, with so many fields and superb views. The lawn is also really handy for photographs if you want to stay closer to everyone during the drinks reception, as it has some beautiful hedges and trees to provide some shade on those hot Summer days! If you’re lucky you might also be able to catch the sun setting across the fields in the evening.

Plenty more from Sophie & Katherine’s superb late Summer wedding at Barmbyfield COMING SOON!

14. Woodstock Weddings.

woodstock weddings and events

Another gorgeous barn wedding venue outside York! Woodstock Weddings was once a traditional horse stud so it has a different feel to the other barn venues I’ve highlighted. Surrounded by 20 acres of beautiful countryside, the barn is one huge space which can be divided for your ceremony and wedding breakfast. Ceremonies are held at the far end of the room, with huge picture windows providing that Good Light, as well as views across the fields. Then it’s outside to the courtyard for confetti and your drinks reception. There’s also a separate Tiki themed bar on the opposite side of the courtyard for later in the day, and even a room for those final moments before the ceremony starts.

The wedding breakfast and evening reception are held in the right side of the barn, by the bar! The whole barn features timber clad walls and the ceiling is draped with light, flowing fabric. There’s also a small mezzanine level for those guests who want some quiet chat during the evening away from the party.

And finally there’s now accommodation for up to 8 people, plus it’s so near York City Centre which has endless options for overnight stays!

There are some great locations for photographs at Woodstock. Obviously there’s the barns and courtyard, but also the lane leading to the venue is more secluded and peaceful. Not to mention the fields at the back of the buildings where I’ve seen blossom-filled hedgerows in the Spring and long wild grasses in the Summer months! Click here to see more from Amy & John’s Spring wedding at Woodstock.

And we’re done! If you’re hunting for barn wedding venues in Yorkshire I hope you found this helpful, and please do contact me when it comes time to find your photographer – I love a barn wedding!
