Wedding Photography at Denton Hall | Emily & Tim
Wedding Photography at Denton Hall. If you haven’t heard me say it before, I LOVE Denton Hall. Yes it’s only 10 minutes from my front door, but really that’s just the icing on the cake because this place is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l, the staff are amazing, and they have their own deer herd!
Emily and Tim were married on what turned out to be a surprisingly grey day in May. Bit of a change for these guys who met when they were living in Bermuda (?!), but then Emily and her family are Canadian and were looking for the full Yorkshire experience, ha! I joined Emily & her mum, sisters, bridesmaids & flower girls at the bridal suite at Denton a couple of hours before the ceremony. Preparations were well under way when I arrived, with Victoria Edwards in charge of make up and Hannah from Verve Hair Design on Hair duties! The ever-amazing Michelle from Bridal P.A. wedding planning popped in and out all morning, making sure everything was running on time and that everyone had what they needed. I love working with Michelle; she’s super organised and efficient and keeps everything running smoothly, with a spring in her step and a smile on her face! And make sure you check out the beautiful spring blooms by Leafy Couture. Sarah is a floral genius and should be booked immediately!
I was joined by the lovely Natasha Cadman for part of the day, and she joined Tim and the guys before the ceremony to capture the finishing touches and to see all the guests arriving. Once Emily was ready (nice and early, hoorah!) we had time for a few relaxed group photos with the bridesmaids before wandering down to the main building for the ceremony.
Emily & Tim had decided to go for a slightly unusual set up for their ceremony – once Emily had walked down the aisle with her (very proud!) dad, she and Tim actually stood in the middle of the room with the registrar, with all of their guests on either side facing in. They also switched sides half way through the ceremony so that both of their families could see their faces for part of the service. Natasha and I loved this, as it meant we were able to get loads of shots from angles that we would normally be able to see, or that wouldn’t be lit as nicely!
After the ceremony Emily & Tim grabbed a drink and exited in a flurry of confetti. We whipped through some relaxed family photos and then I jumped in the car and followed the newlyweds and the wedding party down the road for some photos in the Yorkshire countryside. There’s a lovely field just around the corner from Denton, on a really straight road (handy for ditching cars!), with a great view of the hall in the background. So we abandoned our vehicles, donned out wellies, and spent a fun 15 minutes getting some lovely group photos of the wedding party, and a few portraits of Emily & Tim with Denton Hall in the distance.
Meanwhile Natasha was capturing some candid shots of Emily & Tim’s friends and family, and all the lovely details in the dining room ready for the wedding breakfast. Just as a side note, this is why I often recommend opting for a second photographer if you can – in this situation with timings being what they were I never would have had time to head out to the field and get back to photograph the dining room and get some lovely informal shots of the guests!
When we got back it was time for the receiving line and then in to the dining room for some truly hilarious speeches before the wedding breakfast. Once everyone had eaten it was time for Tim’s speech, and then I took my chance to grab the two of them for another round of portraits around the hall before the light disappeared!
And just like that the cake was cut and it was time to party. Emily & Tim executed a first class first dance (I didn’t think that sentence through, but I’m going with it!), followed by a family tradition from Emily and her parents and sisters, who performed a brilliant routine to “My Girl” leading into a father-daughter dance. Which I adored! I love to see people get into the groove – it’s a lot of fun for me and makes for great photos! I stayed to capture some more of the dance floor antics, and then moseyed on home leaving this lot to party the night away.
