Pronovias for A Spring Wedding at The Normas Wedding Barn.

Rustic Barn Wedding York | The Normans Wedding Photographer

Last March saw me back at The Normans Wedding Barn for the honour of being the photographer for these two wonderful humans! We had only chatted on the phone and via email up until their engagement shoot a week before the wedding (Storm Dennis and his buddies caused us some scheduling problems). As so often happens they claimed to be awkward in front of the camera but you couldn’t tell once we got going!

The weather was cool but bright and dry when I arrived at the cottage at The Normans to capture Emily and the girls getting ready. It was a pleasure to work with Ali Gunn MUA and James White Hair for the first time – they were both so lovely to have around as well as being absolute pro’s at what they do!

I got a few shots of Emily having her make up done as she was nearly finished when I arrived, and then popped upstairs to capture her beautiful Pronovias gown and other little details. I the re-joined everyone down in the living room to get loads of lovely shots of everyone having hair and make-up done and hanging out together.

Meanwhile my second shooter Lissa joined Rishie and the guys at a nearby farmhouse to capture the other side of the preparations. A few team shots outside and then they headed to The Normans in time to greet guests as they arrived.

I nipped over to the barn to get some shots of it all set up for the ceremony and then headed back to see hair and make-up finishing, and the GORGEOUS flower girls arriving. One was full of confidence from the second she walked in, but the other was a little on the shy side. She soon perked up after the nerves of the ceremony though and I had my own adorable shadow for the rest of the day! It was soon time for Emily to get into her dress and get her veil in, and for her lovely dad to get his first glimpse of her ready to go. I think he was impressed!

I headed back to the barn to get in place for the ceremony, and to say hi to Rishie. Emily glided down the aisle with the most wonderful smile on her face – love my job! The ceremony was lovely n filled with laughs which I always like! Emily & Rishie signed the register and then were pelted with confetti as they walked back up the aisle!

They grabbed a drink out in the courtyard and waited to say hi to everyone. After a drink and a canape or two Lissa and I took Emily & Rishie and the bridal party over to the barns opposite the venue for a few photos and then headed back to grab some family members for more group photos in the courtyard.

We left them to chat to their guests for a while then and headed inside to get some shots of the barn set up for the wedding breakfast. The starters were being set out by their fab caterers Hog & Apple (always delicious!) which looked amazing!

People were then called in to take their seats, so I grabbed Emily & Rishie for a few more shots of the two of them around the venue – so many great options! Once everyone was seated, they were announced into the barn and enjoyed their starters before the speeches. We left them alone to eat and then re-joined them for the speeches which were hilarious and Emily and Rishie were roasted pretty equally I would say!

The rest of dinner was served and it wasn’t long before the band were getting ready for the party to start. Emily & Rishie got things going with their first dance and then the dancefloor filled with shape-throwers! I stayed for some mad dancing photos and then left them in peace!

Oh, hey!I'm Laura.

PEOPLE WATCHER.

STORYTELLER.

MOTHER.

CAKE PLEASE.

I live near Ilkley with my slightly* nutty 9 year old Rose, and I have had the honour of photographing weddings and families for 11 years now. I genuinely cannot believe how lucky I am that I get to call this my job.

*she once told me that traffic lights are the bane of her life, and she went through a phase of naming everything "Cantameen". Send help!

I love photographing people. Whether it's your wedding day, you're expecting or have just had a baby, or you simply want to capture your loved ones the way they are right now, my aim is to document unique moments in time to create a beautiful set of images that you will treasure for many years to come. My style combines photojournalism with beautiful portraits, and my fun and relaxed approach makes you feel comfortable and at ease in front of the camera – I want you to actually enjoy having your photograph taken!

Although I’m based near Ilkley I cover all of Yorkshire and I’m actually happy to travel anywhere for weddings and portrait shoots. So if you have any questions then please get in touch using one of my contact forms. In the meantime, grab a cuppa and browse through my wedding or portrait galleries, or take a look at my most recent work on the blog.

I can't wait to hear from you x
